Dear Families,
So that you are all aware, I am going to be out Tuesday, September 29th due to my daughter's oral surgery. As such I had the children complete their agenda for Monday and Tuesday. Therefore the children will not be getting it signed on Tuesday. I wanted to make you aware.
Academics:
This week we will be taking the district benchmark assessment on Monday and Tuesday. This is supposed to give a baseline to measure how much the children grow this year. On Wednesday we will do lesson 1-10 in math, which focuses on fact families.
In writing we are continuing to practice adding detail to our writing using the five senses. Today we are working with touch and the children will be doing some informal writing in their notebooks. We are progressing nicely and it should not be long before we are ready to take an idea we have had and generate a final published piece.
In reading we will review expectations for swapping books either because the reader is finished or does not like the book. For some children this is an issue because they never manage to finish anything. If this is happening at home, remind them that books have beginning, middles and endings. If you never finish the book, there are elements they will not experience. Later this week they will also begin consciously visualizing in their mind what is happening in the story. This will serve to help them comprehend and retain information. This is a skill they are familiar with from grade 2.
We are also, reviewing spelling patterns, on Friday last week we once again reviewed closed syllables, This week we will review open syllables and V-C-E syllables.
Gym: Wednesday
Have a great week!
