Autism Presentation

The third grade attended a 30 minute presentation about autism yesterday.  It was with the purpose of making the children aware of the some of the challenges faced by people who have this diagnosis and how best to work with them.

There are more and more people in our society being diagnosed with "Autism Spectrum Disorder".  As they grow and mature, our students will work with, partner with, work for, supervise and develop social bonds with people who have needs and talents that are a part of this disorder.  We felt that it was important to educate the children that along with the challenges, sometimes presented with this diagnosis, there are also talents and gifts that can often come with ASD.  People with ASD are often highly intelligent and have personality traits that make them a integral part of our society, if other people take the time to be patient and attempt to understand their thought process.

I have attached a link to Autism Speaks if you are interested in educating yourself more about ASD.
