Notes from the Pond

Dear Families,

A few things I wanted to remind you of as we head into the third week of October.

1.  We have been working in class on learning strategies to solve multiplication facts, but the children will need practice on their facts.  We do not have nearly enough time to practice here at school, so mastery will need to be gained by working at home.  Flash cards, games, online activities are great ways for the kids to practice their multiplication facts.

2.  Monday the 17th and Thursday, the 20th the kids have gym class.

3.  Our class is visiting the book fair on Wednesday, October 26th.

4.  The third grade will be going on a field trip, November 1st.  We chose this day partly because Halloween is on a Monday and many families will be out later than usual.  We felt that by having a field trip the next day, the kids could enjoy their night and not worry about getting up for math, reading and writing the next day.

5.  Don't forget about Socktober. A notice was sent home last week.  The third grade is collecting socks for the homeless.  If you are able to donate or know others who would like to, we are collecting new pairs of socks throughout the month of October.

Have a great weekend!

Jason Joyce
