Dear Families,

Today the children brought home their first spelling test of the year.  The front of the test is the 20 spelling words from their list.  The back of the page is sentences that were dictated to the children.  The reasoning behind this is that many times in isolation students can memorize words to spell them correctly but when used in a sentence those same words may be spelled incorrectly.  The back is scored from one-four in five areas: spelling (words that apply the rule from the list), punctuation, capitalization, legibility and organization (Did the child copy the dictation correctly?)

Please sign the test from last week in the red folder and return it to school by Thursday.  Thank you.
